Cold atmosphere rushes in,The tops mountainous area can appear ice and snow

10:41:43, 14/12/2020 On the morning of December 14, the cold air will overflow to the North, then to the Central region, Hanoi is at least 12 degrees Celsius .
The National Meteorological and Hydrological Forecast said that this cold air wave was quite strong, combined with the east wind bringing moisture from the sea, so it rained lightly, the temperature decreased 7-12 degrees compared to today.

On December 15, the cold air pushed down strongly, dragging the lowest temperature in the North to 11-14, the mountain being below 5 degrees Celsius and freezing may appear. During the day it is cloudy, the difference compared to the night is only 2-4 degrees Celsius.

The US Accuweather forecasts that, at noon on December 14, the temperature in Hanoi is still 21, at night it will decrease to 13. On December 15-17, Hanoi fluctuates 12-14 degrees C, then increases 1-2 degrees per day.  The mountainous area is 1,500 meters higher than sea level like Sa Pa (Lao Cai) from December 15 to 18, the temperature is only 9-15 degrees C, with little rain.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Climate Forecasting Department (National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting), said that this will be the first large-scale cold wave in the North in the winter of 2020-2021, the cold mainly focus on Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai. The cold forecast can last 3-5 days.

Due to the low temperature, some places rain, so according to Mr. Huong, it is possible that Fansipan (Lao Cai), the peaks of Mau Son (Lang Son), Sin Ho (Lai Chau), Phia Oac (Cao Bang) could be frozen..

Strong cold air will overflow to Central Vietnam on December 15, causing rain for provinces from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan. On December 15-16, the area from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai is likely to appear heavy rain (50-100 mm in 24 hours). The temperature decreases, Vinh City (Nghe An) between 16-19 degrees Celsius, Hue City (Thua Thien Hue) at the end of the week to 18-19 degrees, Da Nang City 20-24 degrees C.

The main weather in the Central Highlands and the South next week is still sunny. On December 15-16, the southwestern region will likely see unseasonal rain. The highest temperature in the day in the Central Highlands is 29 degrees, the South 33 degrees Celsius.

Due to the impact of La Nina, the winter 2020-2021 comes early, from mid-October, accompanied by many storms, causing floods in the Central region. 249 people died, 57 people were missing, more than 1,500 houses collapsed, nearly 240,000 others were damaged, their roofs blown off.

It is forecasted that in December, there is a possibility of 1-2 tropical cyclones operating in the middle and the south of the East Sea, affecting the weather of Central provinces coming to the south. Cold air spells will increase, forecast 5-7 times.
