Turkey has recorded 44,374 deaths, compared to 5,951 in Syria, including 1,414 in government-controlled areas and 4,537 in opposition-held northwestern Syria.
Syrian health official Maram al-Sheikh said authorities had relied on data from hospitals, medical centers and defense forces in Idlib and Aleppo province. This statistic was made with the help of the Support Coordination Organization (ACU), a local partner of the United Nations (UN). The death toll in opposition-held areas is near the final count, as most of the victims have been pulled out of the rubble.
Stabilizing the lives of people in the affected areas and rebuilding infrastructure in Syria are top priorities. The international community, especially the United Nations, the European Union (EU) and Arab states, are paying special attention to the affected areas in northwestern Syria due to the already dire humanitarian situation there. when disaster strikes.
The EU announced the temporary easing of sanctions on Syria to speed up the delivery of aid to the Middle Eastern country. However, aid and search and rescue activities here after the earthquake are still limited. Currently, three border crossings have been opened for Syria to receive aid from outside.
