FAO supports farmers affected by drought

9:26:35, 11/10/2016 On October 4, the People Committee of Dak Lak had a working session with representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and ActionAid Vietnam Organization (AAV) on the project “Restoration of food security and supporting livelihood for rural community affected by drought at the Central and Central Highlands”.




The project is funded by FAO and implemented by AAV at Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Dak Nong provinces with its total cost of nearly 4.6 billion VND. It will be carried out from 10/2016 to 5/2017 with beneficiary of 4.537 households.

Particularly, in Dak Lak, the project will support Ea Súp and Krông Bông districts with total cost of 1.5 billion VND and 1,048 households who affected by droughts in 2016, the poor, minority groups, disable people and people who do not own land. The project will be supported by cash or provided with agricultural materials to promote production, ensure food security and improve livelihood for farmers.

At the working session, the Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of Dak Lak, Y Giang Gry Niê Knơng highly appreciated benefits of the project in mitigation of consequences of droughts and restoration of agriculturalproduction. He also committed the province will make the most favorable conditions so that FAO and AAV can implement the project with its highest effectiveness.
