Mekong Delta: High concentration of saltwater intrusion penetrate deep into the mainland 93km. 31.000 ha of rice has damaged, more than 96.000 ha land lack of water and rising risk to 140.000ha

10:6:2, 30/06/2016 From 28 to 30 January, 2016, the delegation of Derectorate of Water Resources directed the situation of drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta. Deputy General Director Nguyen Van Tinh led the delegation.


According to the report of localities, on Jan 29, 2016, concentration of saltwater intrusion reached 4g/l and penetrate deep into the mainland to 93km. There are more than 96.000 ha of rice water shortage and this area can be up to 140,000 ha. Due to the flood in 2015, water levels of rivers in the region is low, saltwater intrusion appears soon in the 2016 dry season. increased drought in the region lead to 30.699 hectares of rice and crops has damaged; 96.960 ha of water shortages and rising risk to 140,000 ha.
